I practice law in Greensboro, North Carolina, with the law firm of Brooks Pierce McLendon Humphrey & Leonard, LLP, where I focus on the litigation of complicated business cases in state and federal court.
I've been involved in a number of cases in the North Carolina Business Court which resulted in published opinions, including:
- Scott v. Sokolov, 1996 NCBC 2 (N.C. Super. Ct. December 2, 1996)(procedure for dismissal of a derivative action and choice of law issues).

- Hoepner v. Wachovia Corp., 2001 NCBC 6 (N.C. Super. June 14, 2001)(shareholder inspection rights).
- First Union Corp. v. SunTrust Banks, Inc., 2001 NCBC 09 (N.C.Super. August 10, 2001)(duties of directors and validity of deal protection provisions in a merger).
- In re Wachovia Shareholders Litigation, 2003 NCBC 10 (N.C. Super. Ct. December 19, 2003)(determing standard for award of attorneys' fees in merger litigation)
- Marcoux v. Prim, 2004 NCBC 5 (N.C.Super. April 16, 2004)(duties of directors in a merger context, issues regarding independence of directors).
- Chemcraft Holdings Corp. v. Shayban, 2006 NCBC 13 (N.C.Super. October 05, 2006)(issues of professional responsibility to a prospective client).
I graduated from law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983. I was an editor of the North Carolina Law Review, and clerked for Judge Frank W. Bullock, then a United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of North Carolina. I’m listed in Best Lawyers in America in Commercial Litigation, in Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite for Business Litigation, and in Chambers USA, America’s Leading Business Lawyers in the Litigation category. I’m also a Top 100 North Carolina Superlawyer, as listed in Charlotte Magazine.
